`Bhoomi Puja' for Dharwad Circuit Bench building to be held on April 11

BANGALORE: The `Bhoomi Puja' for the building for the Circuit Bench of the Karnataka High Court in Dharwad will be held on April 11, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy confirmed on Friday.

The building will come up on the premises of the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) near Dharwad.

The Chief Minister told presspersons here that work on the Circuit Bench building in Gulbarga will begin on April 21 or 22. He appealed to advocates in Gulbarga to end their strike.

Dharwad Bar Association president B.D. Hiremath ended his indefinite fast on Thursday after a written assurance from Mr. Kumaraswamy that work on the building for the Circuit Bench will begin on April 11.

On the demand by Opposition parties for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into illegal mining by private firms in Bellary, he said the Government is ready to order one if it will help control illegal mining. A decision will be taken in the next 15 days, he said.

Asked about the communal violence in Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district following the killing of a youth, he said the Government will protect all sections of the people. The Government will also look into the report of the inquiry commission headed by Justice K. Jagannath Shetty, retired judge of the High Court, into the prolonged communal violence in Bhatkal in 1993 in which 17 persons were killed.

(Successive governments have failed to make the report of the commission public.)
