CHENNAI:
Kancheepuram Collector R. Venkatesan on Thursday visited Madras Christian College, Tambaram and A.M. Jain College, Meenambakkam, which have been proposed as counting centres for the Assembly elections for Tambaram and Alandur constituencies respectively.
These institutions were venues for counting in the previous Assembly elections as well. Mr. Venkatesan went around the premises of the institutions and was accompanied by officials from the Revenue and Police departments.
V. J. Philip, principal, Madras Christian College, was also present. The collector said: "At present, it is proposed to have 2,870 polling booths in Kancheepuram district."
In Tambaram, there would be 895 booths and 473 in Alandur. Auxiliary booths would also be located in those places where there are more than 1,400 voters, Mr. Venkatesan said.
