Shun hatred, violence: Governor

Staff Reporter

"The Rajasthanis' love for colour and joyous celebration, music, dance and festivals makes the Thar desert one of the most colourful lands in the world."

CHENNAI: "Hatred and violence have no place in our society, which loves art and festivals," said Governor Surjit Singh Barnala here on Thursday.

He was speaking at the Rajasthan Divas celebration, jointly organised by the Rajasthan Foundation (Chennai chapter) and the Rajasthani Association of Tamil Nadu. Rajasthan Divas marks the formation of Rajasthan in 1949, after the coming together princely states. "This day is special for all Rajasthanis. It attracts people from all faiths, showcasing the unity of our nation," said the Governor.

"The Rajasthanis' love for colour and joyous celebration, music, dance and festivals makes the Thar desert one of the most colourful lands," he added.

The Governor lauded the Rajasthani Association for providing scholarships to needy students and constructing a "dharmasala" exclusively for patients coming to the Adyar Cancer Institute.

M.B. Nirmal, founder, Exnora International, announced the launch of the `Rajasthan-Tamilnadu friendship tree-planting programme,' under which 10,000 trees would be planted. Mr. Barnala planted the first sapling.

Rajasthan Association S.S. Goenka welcomed the gathering and Rajasthan Foundation president Kailashmull Dugar proposed a vote of thanks.
