S.R. Ashok Kumar
Actor Simran
Away from the limelight, Simran remains the heartthrob of many a Tamil fan. She married her childhood friend Deepak. Now, she is the proud mother of a baby boy. She spoke about her experience in the film industry and her likes and dislikes when she was in Chennai recently. I am a very simple and practical person. I keep moving with the times. By God's grace, I have been able to gain the right perspective on things. I entered films with the Hindi movie Tere Mere Sapne. In Tamil, my first releases VIP with Prabhu Deva and Once More with Vijay were released simultaneously. I do not have the list of films that I have acted in till now. Maybe 50 ... I have done a lot of Tamil and Telugu films, but I chose my roles wisely so that I remain talked about. I believe one cannot work on something that does not interest one. So, I always chose roles that interested me. Some movies bombed, many clicked. But, I never compromised on my work. I am proud of my part in the movie industry. Some movies made me feel good about myself ... such as Parthaen Rasithaen, Vaali, Kannathil Muthamittal, Thullatha Manamum Thullum and in Telugu Kalisundamura and Narasimhanayudu. People have appreciated my work. But, I do not let the compliments go to my head. I wanted to be level-headed and work harder. I have recently attained a prized position in life that of the mother of my son, Adheep. Now, I am enjoying my real life more than my reel life. I feel very proud of this status. It is a great responsibility. Life has turned more real after marriage. I did not pay attention to a lot of things. Now, after a nearly two-year break, I can see a clear picture in front of me. I connected with real people. I like these experiences. I don't think I ever had my `own place' in cinema. So, it has not been taken by anyone else. Looking at it in another way, I feel every one in the industry will have their `own place.' Today, many talented young girls are entering the field and I am happy to see them as they have a good figure and talent. They look good on screen. Cinema is growing everyday and becoming more stylish. I do not think that I have reached the top. Life becomes very boring if you do not aim for anything. I feel one can never reach a peak, even till death. According to me, one should always work to become better. Right now, I am not looking at any script. My baby is too young and needs good care for at least a year. When I feel fit and fine physically and mentally I will certainly think about acting again.
