Karunanidhi to seek re-election from Chepauk

CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi, general secretary K. Anbazhagan, treasurer Arcot N. Veerasamy, and all the three deputy general secretaries M.K. Stalin, Parithi Ilamvazhuthi and Sargunapandian will contest from the city.

Mr. Karunanidhi will seek re-election from Chepauk, while Mr. Anbazhagan will contest again from Harbour, Mr. Veerasamy from Anna Nagar, Mr. Stalin from Thousand Lights, Mr. Ilamvazhuthi from Egmore and Mr. Sargunapandian from R.K. Nagar.

As many as 22 sitting MLAs have been re-nominated, while Appavoo, who won as an Independent in Radhapuram and later joined the DMK, has been allotted the seat again.

Those denied party ticket include party whip E. Pugazhendi, Asokan (Tiruvarur), S.A.M. Hussain (Triplicane), Parani Kumar (Tiruchi - 1) and Vythialingam (Tambaram).

There are 13 women, and four Muslims in the list. As many as 77 are graduates, and 29 are qualified in law. First timer P. Seeman will take on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in Andipatti.
