Heroin seized

CHENNAI: Officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau have seized 5.7 kg of heroin from a Sri Lankan woman at Koyambedu here.

The bureau's south Zonal Director, Shankar Jiwal, said based on specific information, the officers intercepted Sivan Indrani alias Mallika near the Koyambedu bus terminus and seized the narcotic drug from her bag. She had allegedly brought the contraband from Tirupati to Chennai for smuggling to Sri Lanka. She was arrested on Thursday last and remanded to judicial custody. Syed Abdul Rahman Rawther of Erwadi in Ramanathapuram district, who allegedly handed over the heroin, was also arrested on Saturday. He was remanded to judicial custody.
