CHENNAI: A Chennai-based IT firm has developed a portal to promote safety in bloodcare, help maintain and organise blood stock position online and provide faster contact to persons require donor blood.

The vertical industry portal, or vortal--www.bloodindex.org carries blood information, articles about the life-saving fluid, facts, eligibility test, reviews on blood components and donor requirements.

Developed by eCleave Technologies, the vortal also features Frequently Asked Questions about blood, blood groups, blood testing and foods that increase blood regeneration after donation. It will also provide easy search and information retrieval for regulations and standards, tips on organising blood camps and a calendar of blood camps. The rules for blood banking in India, AIDS awareness, blood stock update, a blog to discuss blood safety and directory services are other key features. Also built into the vortal is a package of alerts, ads, a tool bar, MedNews updates and an `expert talk' forum that offers consultation with experts in legal and clinical issues. The Bloodindex networks with blood banks, hospitals, educational institutions, research houses, organisations in transfusion medicine, AIDS control agencies, clinical laboratories and corporates.

It would establish public/private partnerships at the regional and national level for providing quality bloodcare, said R. Padmakrishnan of eCleave Technologies. In addition to providing quality bloodcare, the Bloodindex will offer support to partners in the field of healthcare.

The vortal was launched by K. Manivasan, Joint Commissioner (health), Chennai Corporation, at the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
