Purandara Dasar day observed

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI : Kartik Fine Arts on Monday observed "Purandara Dasar day" and felicitated violin maestro N.Balam.

Sabha chairman L.Sabaretnam, presiding over the function, said he was privileged to honour Ms.Balam, who is a member of the sabha. She was always eager to nurture young talented musicians and was ready to accompany budding vocalists as violinist, which many seasoned vidwans might try to avoid. He appealed to her to impart her talents to young vidwans.

Sirkazhi G.Sivachidambaram said it was difficult to play violin for Tamil songs. But Ms. Balam was an expert in it, who also used to guide vocalists. He said he perfected his concerts on many occasions when she was the accompanying violinist. Flutist N.Ramani and sabha secretary G.S.Ramanujam were among those who felicitated Ms.Balam.
