CHENNAI: Making sense of the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) dynamics just got easier. The IIT Madras Alumni Association (Chennai chapter) will organise an IIT-M familiarisation programme, `Catch the IIT Bug,' in two phases starting April 4.
Awareness
"The aim is to promote greater awareness about the IIT system in general and IIT-Madras in particular. While the first phase is targeted at principals and teachers in schools, the second is open to students in classes IX to XI and their parents,'' L. S. Ganesh, head of the Department of Management Studies, IIT-M and president of the association, said here on Thursday. While the first phase would be held at the IIT's Central Lecture Theatre from 6 p.m. onwards, the date for the second phase would be announced separately. "The programme is meant to educate students on the IIT's tradition of providing technical and intellectual leadership to the country. Many industry captains and top-level executives of leading companies in India and abroad are alumni of the IIT," Asit K. Barma, assistant vice-president, Satyam Computer Services Ltd., and secretary of the association, said.
Academic programmes
`Catch the IIT Bug' will enable audiences to learn more about the IIT's academic programmes, campus infrastructure facilities, extracurricular activities, social and cultural aspects of campus life, training and placement support systems and future options. This would inspire more students to prepare sufficiently for admission to IIT, Mr. Ganesh said. Alumni, professors and students of the institute will initiate and lead the discussions and presentations. The event will not feature any discussion on entrance examinations. Registrations can be made by at catchtheiitbug@yahoo.co.in.
