How GoAir got its name
T. Shankar
CHENNAI:
The most interesting thing about private players in the aviation sector is their catchy names. Mumbai-based Wadia Group has promoted a "smart cost" carrier called `GoAir'.
Its Managing Director, Jeh Wadia, said, "Initially, my wife wanted the name `GoEco' [for eco-friendly airline]. But, it [the name] did not blend with the civil aviation sector's growth profile. We then toyed with `GoJet'. But, people felt it might be construed as a subsidiary of Jet Airways. My wife felt the name should reflect people on fast track mode ... so, we named it `GoAir'. The credit should go to my wife," Mr. Wadia added.
