BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Saturday said the Government will order an inquiry soon into encroachment of property in and around Bangalore and bring out a report on it.

Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the BJP Yuva Morcha at the Legislators' Home here, he said government property worth Rs. 10,000 crores have been encroached upon in the city by the real estate mafia. The Government will recover encroached property and take action against the culprits, he added. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda are also keen on recovering encroached property in and around Bangalore, he said.

Mr. Yediyurappa, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the State Budget for 2006-07 will usher in rural transformation and provide justice to the deprived sections.

The budget, which will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, will spring many surprises. It will set aside higher allocations for irrigation, water supply and rural development schemes, he said.

A good number of investors from other States have come forward to invest in Karnataka. So far, only Bangalore has witnessed growth. The Government will take steps to promote industrial growth in smaller towns such as Mangalore, Mysore, Shimoga, Belgaum and Gulbarga by improving infrastructure there, he said.

Metro

Mr. Yediyurappa said the Government will go ahead with the Metro Rail project. The Chief Minister is keen on executing the project as it will decongest the traffic in the city.
