University `Job Fair' evokes a good response

MADURAI: Thousands of college students thronged the Madurai Kamaraj University campus on Saturday at the first ever `Job Fair' conducted to find placements for under-graduate and post-graduate students of affiliated colleges.

Over 2,000 boys and girls registered their names at `Job Fair 2006' and attended a group discussion, written test and a test of spoken English.

The fair was open to final year students of all UG /PG and diploma courses, both from university and affiliated colleges. Selected candidates would receive job confirmation orders on Sunday after a final interview.

While MKU is hosting the two-day event, a Salem-based placement consultancy firm, Ascon Associate Consultants, is the coordinator on behalf of recruiting firms.

P. Maruthamuthu, Vice-Chancellor, along with senior university officials, spoke to students participating in the fair. He described conducting of the fair as a major step taken by the University Students' Welfare and Advisory Bureau. At the fair, recruitment is being done for Allsec Technologies, a public limited software company, for its Business Process Outsourcing operations in Chennai.

The Dean for Industrial Consultancy of MK University, PR. Athappan, said appointment orders would be handed over to students at a principals' meeting to be held on March 24.

Of the total 2,005 candidates registered at the fair, 1,100 were girls, Dr. Athappan said.
