CAB dismayed over Eden overlook

KOLKATA: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday expressed its dismay after the Eden Gardens was excluded from the four venues proposed to host the ICC Champions Trophy in October-November.

Terming the BCCI decision as flimsy, one of the CAB's top functionaries, Goutam Das Gupta said the CAB had not said it would only host the semifinals and the final. "We had cited climatic conditions and the lack of time to prepare the pitches to host international matches before October 23. The Board did not want CAB to host any match of the Champions Trophy. That is why the Eden Gardens is excluded on some flimsy grounds," he said.

He also said there was no question of the CAB getting out of the approved BCCI rotation policy just because it was organising Champions Trophy matches.

One of the joint secretaries of the CAB, Saradindu Pal, said that the working committee would meet soon to decide the next course of action. — Special Correspondent
