Hackers stealing data for profit

Bangalore: Cyber hackers, who once designed programs to destroy data, are now increasingly focusing on stealing information for profit without damaging data or alerting the user, according to a study.

Releasing the "Internet security threat report" compiled by Symantec Corporation, a security solutions provider, here on Thursday, Managing Director (Sales) Vishal Dhupar said cyber crime represents the greatest threat to consumers' "digital lifestyle" and online business. Symantec, which conducted a comprehensive study between July 1 and December 31 last into the threat worldwide, has tracked notable rise in cyber crime activities.

He said hackers are focusing on regional targets, desktops and Web applications to steal corporate information. — UNI
