Bangalore: Women make up 51 per cent of students in some streams who will graduate at the 40th convocation of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, on Saturday. UAS Vice-Chancellor M.N. Sheelavantar told presspersons on Thursday that Bachelor's degrees will be given to 432 students and Master's degrees to 236 students. Thirty-six students will receive doctoral degrees, he said. Twenty-six gold medals 20 from donors and six from the university will be presented at the graduate level. At the postgraduate level, 54 gold medals will be given. The UAS will confer the Dr. M.H. Marigowda national awards to the "best horticulture researcher and farmer", and the Zuari Industries' "best extension worker award" and "best farm superintendent award" at the convocation. The university offers six undergraduate programmes of four-year duration in agriculture, forestry, sericulture and horticulture at six campuses located in Bangalore, Shimoga, Mandya, Mudigere, Chintamani and Ponnampet. Master's degrees are offered in 24 specialised areas and doctoral degrees in 14 areas of research. More than 20,000 students have passed out of the UAS. ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) Director-General Mangala Rai will deliver the convocation address. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi will preside.
