BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday instructed officials of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to work in unison in the execution of roadworks in the city. After a surprise inspection of roadworks at Indiranagar and Koramangala in the city, he asked BMP Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam to ensure coordination among utility agencies for avoiding delay in the execution of roadworks. He directed the BMP to immediately take up repairs on the Old Madras Road, which is in a woeful condition. The Commissioner told the Chief Minister that work on the Old Madras Road will be taken up before the end of the month. Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons that roadworks in the city will be completed before June end. The BMP has been instructed to speed up works before the onset of monsoon. The Government will give equal importance to rural roads.
To visit villages
After the State Budget session, he will visit 10 to 12 villages in each district and inspect the quality of works executed, he said. The Chief Minister announced that development works at J.P. Nagar in the city, City Municipal Council limits of Rajarajeshwarinagar, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli will be inspected on Thursday evening.
Exchange of words
An interesting aside to the Chief Minister's surprise visit was the exchange of words between Deputy Mayor Lakshminarayana and BMP Commissioner in his presence during the inspection of roads at Indirangar. Mr. Lakshminarayana questioned the need to upgrade roads at Indirangar as they were already in good condition. "Nobody is bothered to repair the Mysore Road," he said in a raised voice.
