News Analysis
In "Globescan" (International page, March 15, 2006), a reader points out that the heading, "New drug reverses heart disease" is misleading. The report (a study) said a regimen of very intensive cholesterol lowering statin drug therapy can partially reverse the build-up of plaque in the coronary arteries. The reader says statins is a class of drug that already exists and an increase in dosage of the drug helps in reversing heart disease partially. "So it is not a new drug, but an aggressive usage of an existing drug." It is "decad" and not "decade" ("Mystical experience", Religion, March 15, 2006), says a reader, with reference to a "decade of verses" mentioned in the column. Is he right? According to the Oxford Dictionary, "decad" means "The number of ten, as the perfect number of the Pythogoreans", while a meaning of "decade" is "Each of ten books or parts of a single literary work". In this context, our usage fits! In the article on Mozart 1756 to 1791 ("That twinkling little star, MetroPlus, February 27, 2006), in the blurb we wrongly said it was 250 years after his death; it is 250 years since his birth. In the text, the reference to the popular ad jingle for Titan watches and its signature tune should be to Mozart's Twenty-fifth Symphony, and not Fifth.
