NMCC, Oman Chamber of Commerce for business tie-ups

OCCI shows keen interest in Kannur airport, tourism projects

    KANNUR: The North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) have decided to work in business tie-ups in mutually benefiting areas.

    NMCC president C. Jayachandran and secretary B. Maheshchandra Baliga told a press conference here on Monday that the visit of the NMCC delegation to Oman on March 6, 7 and 8 to meet OCCI leaders was a milestone in the 54-year history of the NMCC as it marked the entry of the chamber into the international arena with its association with the OCCI.

    They said that the delegation including themselves, NMCC treasurer C.K. Unnikrishnan and managing committee member Rajan held discussions with OCCI president Said Al-Ghattami, Director-General Mohamed Nasser Al-Shoraiqi and Public Relations chief Mohamed Anwar Al-Balushi on improving trade relations and investment opportunities and tourism development in Kannur, among other things.

    Mr. Jayachandran said that the delegation was invited to address the India-Oman Joint Business Council of the OCCI. The OCCI leaders showed keen investment interest in the projects in the pipeline in the district such as the airport, power project, special economic zone, textile park, food park, marine park, IT and knowledge village and tourism.

    "We presented the investment potential and possibilities in North Kerala," he said. The Oman Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development was been keen to give investment support to the airport project and tourism sector, he said.

    The delegation met Khalid Hilal Al-Maawali, Director-General for Investment of the Ministry of Tourism, and he expressed support for the airport project, Mr. Jayachandran added.

    The NMCC office-bearers said that the NMCC was trying to be part of the delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) visiting Oman on March 25.
