Express trains arrive late

CHENNAI: Trains from Kerala, Erode and Coimbatore arrived at Chennai Central two hours behind schedule on Saturday morning due to derailment of a goods train at Salem junction on Friday.

According to railway officials here, three wagons of the goods train derailed on the outskirts of Salem junction disrupting traffic both up and down traffic.

While one of the lines was restored late Friday night, the other line was restored early on Saturday.

Consequently, express trains from Kerala, including Thiruvanathapuram Mail, Alleppey Express and Mangalore Mail, Nilgiris Express from Mettupalayam, Cheran Express from Coimbatore and Yercaud Express from Erode suffered a delay of about two hours, the officials added.
