VHP will unveil demands at Erode

Special Correspondent

Decides to support parties that ratify its charter

CHENNAI: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will support the party that subscribes to its charter of demands in the Assembly elections, S. Vedantam, international vice-president, said here on Thursday.

He told reporters that the demands, to be revealed at a conference on March 18 and 19 at Erode, would seek to safeguard the interests of Hindus.

"We will put forth the Hindu agenda. We will support those who come forward to adopt our agenda." The Parishad would not support any party on its own.

Its stand would be based on the response of political parties.

Asked whether the VHP would declare its opposition to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam over the arrest of the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Mr. Vedantam said no such position would be adopted.

The VHP staged a demonstration near the Memorial Hall here, condemning Tuesday's bomb blasts at Varanasi.
