Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Nammalvarpet, Vyasarpadi, Sowcarpet West, Alandur SS Area, Kilpauk, Saidapet East, CIT Nagar I, Sastri Nagar, Adyar, Choolaimedu, Mahalingapuram, Thiruvellavoyal SS Area, Teynampet, Velachery East, Perungudi and Duraipakkam.

Training courses

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation is conducting training courses for Employers/EPF members through the Zonal Training Institute (South Zone), Chennai.

The next programme is scheduled to be held on March 28 and 29. A course fee of Rs. 1,000 per participant will be charged. For details, contact 26284565.

Blood donation camp

The NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of The New College in association with Lions Club of Sky Line conducted a blood donation camp on Thursday. Janab Md. Ashraf, college treasurer inaugurated the camp. Programme officers S. Anvar, M. Ibrahim Naveed and J. Sulaiman led the camp.

Energy conservation

An energy conservation awareness programme was held at Easwari Engineering College on Wednesday. Experts from National Thermal Power Corporation led by C. V. Panneer Selvam, deputy general manager, NTPC, participated in the programme.

Thyagaraja kritis

Music Education Trust will organise a lecture-demo on `The Tenets of Management Principles in Thyagaraja kritis' on Sunday. V. Sivakumar from Washington will present the lec-dem at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore at 6 p.m. V. V. Srivatsa, musicologist, will be moderator.

Oratorical competition

The department of English, Mohamed Sathak College of Arts and Science, Sholinganallur, conducted an inter-collegiate oratorical competition for the Mohamed Sathak rolling shield on Monday. More than 16 institutions participated. S. M. Hamid Abdul Quadir, chairman, Mohamed Sathak Trust presented the rolling trophy to the winning team from Stella Maris College represented by Rashmi Goutham and Samyuktha Rajagopal.

Crash course

A crash course is being held for CBSE students in maths, physics and chemistry for class XI from April 3 and for class XII from April. The classes will be held at No. 6, Nagarathinam Colony, Mylapore. Regular classes for class IX and XII will also be conducted. For details, contact Shantha Krishnan at 24990648.

Cultural festival

INSTINCTS-2K6, the inter- collegiate festival of SSN College of Engineering, was inaugurated on Friday by actor Jayam Ravi. Appreciating the students' initiative he said the cultural festival was aptly named "since a person's instinct is his only life long companion." Students from engineering, medical, arts and science colleges from the city, Coimbatore and Madurai are participating.
