Engineering student commits suicide

Chennai: A third year engineering student hanged himself at his home in Choolaimedu on Thursday night.

According to the police, Robin Vaas (20) was concerned about his parents' reaction to his involvement in the unrest at Sathyabhama College of Engineering on Thursday.

Students had gone on the rampage, destroying furniture and classrooms after the management failed to respond to the All India Council for Technical Education's approval for courses. The mechanical engineering student, son of Singarayan Vaas from Gangai Amman Koil in Choolaimedu, apparently hanged himself in his room.His body was taken to his hometown Tuticorin for the last rites.

One held on molestation charge

The Basin Bridge police arrested a 19-year-old for allegedly molesting a three-year-old girl.

Vijaya of KP Park in Basin Bridge complained that two of her neighbours, Kutty (20) and his friend Gopi (19), molested her daughter on February 2.

The police arrested Gopi and are searching for Kutty.
