HYDERABAD: The reported move to close down the Nazareth High School in Abids has left the parents of students bewildered, as they were asked to get their children admitted to a different school. Enraged over the management's decision, parents staged a noisy demonstration in front of the school in Abids on Thursday. Parents alleged that the school building had been sold to a business group and after the current examinations the school will be shut down. "They haven't even given us notice, parents teacher meetings are being postponed," says M.A. Taheer, mother of two. "Suddenly they are asking us to take the children and admit them in a different school," says Nasreen Fathima, whose two children study here.
Eviction
School principal Tahir however, says the attendance had dwindled over the past three years from 550 to 175. With the strength coming down, it was difficult for the management to pay the salaries and meet other expenses. Moreover, the owner had sold the building to Chermas and they will have to evict the building or be thrown out.
Other schools
Mr. Tahir said the school had got in touch with Seventh Day Adventist, John School, Midas School and Golden Rose School to consider these children for admission. The Correspondent of Seventh Day Adventist High School has even accepted the request to admit the children on condition that parents pay the admission fee of Rs. 3500 (annual fees) along with the monthly fees.
