Students seek explanation

Staff Reporter

They want to know whether their courses required AICTE approval

TAMBARAM: Two public notifications issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in the past week cautioning students and colleges about running about courses not approved by the Council has created panic among students of private deemed universities in Chennai.

Students in three deemed universities have staged protests in the last three days demanding to know from their managements whether their engineering programmes also required AICTE approval.

A spokesman for the Dr. MGR Research and Educational Institute pointed to stay orders secured by four deemed universities against any AICTE "interference" with their programmes. The injunction was still in force.
