Workshop on education in United Kingdom

Two-day exhibition begins on Sunday


  • It will help students and parents interact with University spokesmen
  • 60 U.K. educational institutions will be available
  • Students can also undertake part-time employment during their study

    CHENNAI: Have you been mulling over questions like "Can I study in the UK?" or "How do I apply" or "What about the costs?" Your queries will be answered during a two-day Education U.K. Exhibition, which commences here on Sunday.

    Representatives of more than 60 U.K. educational institutions will be available at the event, hosted by the British Council at Hotel Taj Coromandel.

    The exhibition will provide an opportunity for students and parents interact with University spokesmen and attend seminars which will help them understand the admission procedures and requirements to pursue studies.

    The seminar will provide details undergraduate and vocational courses, postgraduate courses, IELTS and student visas. According to the organisers, more than 17,000 Indian students go to study in the UK every year and this number is tipped to increase to over 26,000 by 2010, as per a study on Global Student Mobility Vision, 2020.

    The attractions of education in the U.K. include the shorter-course duration (Masters courses have a duration of one year only and undergraduate programmes entail three years, except in Scotland where it takes four years), high standard of education, global recognition for U.K. degrees and reasonable costs. Students can also undertake part-time employment during their study programme up to 20 hours per week and full-time during vacations.

    The U.K. also offers various schemes like the Fresh Talent in Scotland and the Science and Engineering Graduate scheme that facilitates outstation students to work in the U.K. after completing their course from a U.K. institutionFor information, log onto workingintheuk.gov.uk.

    U.K. institutions also offer a gamut of courses in subjects like management and business studies, engineering, IT, communications, art and design, life sciences, media studies, medicine and paramedicine.
