HYDERABAD: Keen on studying in the United Kingdom, then the UK Education Exhibition at Taj Krishna is a must see, for over 54 institutions are participating in this two-day event offering a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

And this is one opportunity not only to shop around for degrees to suit one's career plans but also interact with university representatives who actually handle the student application process back in the universities in UK.

Says L. Dhanasekaran, Head Education UK (South India), students can learn about the fresh schemes such as fresh talent initiative in Scotland, science and engineering graduate schemes introduced by the UK Government on the website — www.workingintheuk.gov.uk. Another highlight of the exhibition are seminars on undergraduate, vocational and PG courses, IELTS and new schemes for linking work with studies. Visa Officer David Oswald based in the British Deputy High Commission, Chennai, is also here to explain the visa process.

Registered colleges

Countering fears of getting into unregistered colleges, Mr. Dhaneskaran says the Government of UK has a Department For Education and Skills (DFES), which provides a list of institutions that are authorised to award degrees, hence students can always log on to the website — www.dfes.gov.uk — to find out if the college they have applied to is registered or not. And only students from registered colleges will get visas. Besides there are no grading of various institutions but a Department Rating of courses is offered, so students can also find out which is the best place to study a particular course.
