Hyderabad: The annual investiture meeting of the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India, the conglomeration of South Indian Freemasons, will be held here on February 18 and 19 at Shilpakala Vedika. The regional meet also marks the celebration of 200 years of Freemasonry in the twin cities.
18 lodges
Hosted jointly by the 18 lodges of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Warangal and Kurnool, more than a 1,000 Freemasons from all over South India and other parts of the country are expected to attend the two-day meet. One of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies, Freemasonry is based on the principle of the `Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man'. Several well-known masons such as M.W. Arun Chintopanth and Grand Master elect R.W. Bro, Justice Devender Gupta, Mohd. Fuaad Mirza are expected to participate in the regional meet.
Taking stock
They will take stock of its activities and plan for the future. Freemasonry has been existing in India for the past 250 years and in the twin cities for 200 years. The history of Freemasonry in Hyderabad dates back to 1806 when the first lodge, Army Lodge came up.
