Bench also seeks details of cinema halls violating rules

  • MCH to ask all the persons using highrises to comply with fire safety norms
  • Persons seeking exemption asked to appear before court and make out a case
  • Time limit for exercise fixed at two months

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Thursday directed the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) to serve notices on some 250 high rise buildings seeking compliance of fire safety norms or face the consequences. The bench also sought details of the cinema halls, which were not following the rules.

The bench was dealing with the case pertaining to highrise buildings and the lack of safety norms.

The MCH Commissioner is to ask all the persons using these buildings to comply with fire safety norms. The authorities can seize these buildings if the directions are not complied with.

If the persons want to have exemption, they have to appear before the court and then make out a case. The time limit for this exercise is two months.

The bench gave two weeks' time to the Government to give a list of cinema halls, which have not complied with the statutory rules.

    Costs imposed

The High Court took a serious view of the fact that some persons were filing public interest petitions which do not merit the attention of the court and imposed costs of Rs.25,000.

    Writ petition

A Division Bench was dismissing the writ petition filed by two persons challenging the road widening activity in Proddatur town of Kadapa district. Sudhakar and Srinivasulu filed the petition complaining that the road widening was used against only one section of the traders and called for its intervention in the works. The bench did not appreciate the attitude of the petitioners and imposed the costs.

    Bench calls for details

A Division Bench asked the Government to submit the scheme and the details of the action plan to facilitate surgery for children suffering from heart ailments. The bench was dealing with a public interest petition filed by one Sambasiva Rao.

He complained that the Government and corporate hospitals were playing with the lives of innocent children. The counsel for the petitioner said a child, Sharanya, died due to delay by the officers. The bench called for information to give further directions.
