HYDERABAD: The Cabinet on Thursday cleared the new (model) building rules prepared by officials applicable to Hyderabad and its vicinity and all other urban areas in the State. In case of Hyderabad, these `simplified common building rules' will be applicable to the areas of the HUDA, Hyderabad Airport Development Authority, Cyberabad Development Authority and Buddha Purnima Project. The rules provided for separate stipulations for old and congested areas. Permission to high-rise buildings would be accorded depending on the locations and group/cluster housing in rows encouraged with common facilities. Property tax concession would be allowed in case of those leaving higher setbacks, parking spaces. Licences would made mandatory for builders. The compensation for fruit-bearing trees on lands acquired for Government purposes such as irrigation projects has been steeply raised. In some cases, the hike is as much as six times. Also, nine new types of trees have been added to the list of 16 fruit-bearing trees to which the compensation had so far been restricted. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet at its meeting here on Thursday, in view of the fact that the existing rates were fixed four years ago.
