Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "All-India for a rupee" (Feb. 13). With many surrendering their landlines and switching over to cell phones, the slash in the rates will put the trend on hold.
V. Janaki,
Unless consumer services are equally streamlined, reduction of call charges will hardly woo the people.
The much-publicised one India-one rupee scheme can be seen as a consumer friendly move only if the monthly rental is pegged at the existing Rs.180. Otherwise, it would be a case of giving with one hand and taking it away with the other.
