Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta on Thursday said the period for filing applications for inclusion or deletion of names and corrections in the voters list has been extended up to February 12. This follows pleas made by some recognised political parties. Mr. Gupta told reporters here that the special campaign would be conducted on February 12, too in addition to February 4. The campaign slated for February 4 could not be postponed for a day as requested by some parties in view of the Grama Sabha meetings planned in some districts, he said. He also made it clear that the extension of time for filing applications for inclusion and deletion would not come in the way of release of the final rolls as per schedule on February 27.
In other districts, the electors could avail themselves of the facility from Saturday onwards.
