Refresher course for teachers in life sciences

BANGALORE UNIVERSITY UGC Academic Staff College will organise an all-India orientation programme and refresher course in Life Sciences (Inter-disciplinary-Botany, Zoology, Sericulture and Biochemistry) from February 13.

Interested undergraduate and postgraduate teachers, permanent and temporary/contract teachers who have been teaching for at least two academic sessions in an institution affiliated to a university could apply. The college could be contacted on or before February 7 on Ph: 22961271 or 56966427.

Laurels

CPL KOUSHIK S., a student of Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, has bagged the "All India Best Cadet Award (S. D. Army)" for the year 2006 at the Republic Day function in Delhi. He was also a part of the All India Motor Cycle Expedition from Bangalore to Kargil, last year.

Cpl. Abhishek K.R., a student of the same college, was the Flag Area Briefer, who gave the Karnataka and Goa Dte the first position in the Flag Area Briefing. He received the award for the best SD army contingent on behalf of the KAR and GOA Dte from the Prime Minister.

The KAR and GOA Dte won the best cadet award (SD Army) after six years. The last best cadet award from the Dte was also in the name of a Jain college student, Company Senior Under Officer, Abhijith Karthikeya D.

The Jain college NCC has now proposed a motorcycle expedition from Bangalore to the North Eastern regions of the country.

Champions

THE TEAM from the Rizvi College of Hotel Management, Mumbai, was adjudged the overall champions at "Concours Hotellerie 2006," the seventh national inter-collegiate competition organised here by the KLE Society's S. Nijalingappa College Department of Hotel Management.

The event featured "Concours des Cuisiniers," a chef competition on vegetable and carving and cake icing decoration; "Designer Une Carte de menu carte," a contest in "Design an Ala Carte menu," besides other competitions called "Flair for Bar," "Flower Arrangement" and "Front Office & Management." Professionals from the industry judged the events.

Seminar

THE M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management will organise a two-day management seminar from Thursday at the institute's auditorium. Among the speakers will be Sarit Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Trendz Management Consultancy; Narayan Murthy, Guest Scientist, ISRO; and Suhas Gopinath, CEO, Globals Inc.

Training

THE CENTRE for Psychological Counselling, Bangalore University Department of Psychology, will arrange an international training of trainers programme from February 20 to February 25. The objective of this programme is "to prepare and equip professionals from various backgrounds on the different aspects of disaster management and on psychological and social rehabilitation."

Professionals from the management spectrum, non-governmental organisations, government appointments, military, emergency services, UN agencies and of course, academics could participate.

Winners

THE ST. Joseph's College of Business Administration has won the overall winners cup in the "DIAKRISI 2006" organised by the Mount Carmel Institute of Management.

The festival was held on January 23 and January 24.
