People are still made to wait for inspectors: Police Commissioner

BANGALORE: "Though I have taken steps to prevent people from waiting to register complaints, it has not yielded any result. Even now you can find people waiting for long hours to register a complaint," Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh said here on Tuesday.

Addressing his last press conference as the City Police Commissioner, Mr. Ajai Kumar Singh said he was not able to do much to help people get their complaints registered quickly. "People are still made to wait for inspectors," he said. This is one of the areas in which he wanted to bring about changes, he added.

Mr. Ajai Kumar Singh, who is of the Additional Director-General of Police rank, will be shortly promoted to the rank of Director-General of Police.

Terming his seven-month-long term as "fruitful," the Police Commissioner said he received good support from his officers and the people. He was able to make the police people-friendly, he said and added that he also instilled fear in some offenders, apart from bringing down the number of extortion and dacoity cases.

Mr. Ajai Kumar Singh said the Government has sanctioned the recruitment of 992 officers for managing traffic in the city. This includes six inspectors, 82 sub-inspectors, 214 assistant sub-inspectors, 390 head constables and 300 constables. He noted that the meetings of the task force on city traffic management held under the leadership of the Home Secretary were beneficial.

He said some private firms have submitted tenders for a traffic education scheme. These tenders are pending acceptance by a high-power committee. "It will take another two months to implement this scheme," he said.
