Bangalore: Infosys Technologies President and Managing Director Nandan Nilekani on Wednesday called for a sound legal framework to deal with cross-border concerns such as data privacy issues, security issues and cutting edge, sensitive, mission critical data of customers. "The flat world phenomenon has thrown up a series of challenges and cross-border concerns like data privacy and security issues as clients are extremely concerned about sharing their cutting edge, sensitive, mission critical data out of their premises. This calls for a sound legal framework," Mr. Nilekani said while delivering the keynote address at the Second International Asian Conference of Computer Law Association (CLA) here. The complexity increased as in a flat world scenario, relationships between service providers and buyers become extremely inter-linked and this lead to a harmonisation process. "Apart from the legal binding what is key is the trust, ethical conduct, accountability, transparency and strong disclosure norms", he stated. CLA President AmyLynne Williams said the conference would offer unparalleled international networking opportunities, with professionals engaged in different aspects of the business of providing legal advice to technology companies. He said the conference would throw more light on a wide range of topics, including protecting Intellectual Property, data and privacy in outsourced world, technology controlling and protection of IP and IP legal issues in India and abroad. The two-day conference would also focus on contentious issues in outsourcing contracts, arbitration of international technology disputes and emerging legal issues in the protection of software.
