Blood donation camp

CHENNAI: A total of 41 units of blood were collected by the Department of Transfusion Medicine of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University at a camp held at Sathya Sai Seva Samithi in Madipakkam on Sunday.

Devotional music classes

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, T. Nagar centre, situated at Ramakrishna Dorairaj Sadan, 12, Thanikachalam Road, will conduct sloka and devotional music classes for children from February 3. The classes will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. by Rukmini Sivakumar. For details contact: 24329054.

Workshop for students

The Department of Commerce of Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women held a workshop on excellence through empowerment on Saturday. About 200 final year students benefited. Samuel Sathis, president of Eye Opener Training and Consulting, said a positive attitude, belief, choice, commitment and focus are important factors. He called on the need to empower oneself for success in life.

Tiruvalluvar day celebrated

Kaligi Ranganathan Montford Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Perambur celebrated Tiruvalluvar Day last week for three days. Students staged literary debate, villupattu, quiz and kuravanchi dance and drama. The principal R. Janardhanan presided over.

Temple silver jubilee

Madras Kali Bari will celebrate its silver jubilee on Saturday. The temple, situated at Umapati Street Extension in West Mambalam, will launch its celebrations with a maha Chandi homam at 6 a.m. Paintings by children will be exhibited for a week at the temple from Sunday. Tirukkural contests will also be held.

Students' march

About 2,500 students from eight schools of Vivekananda Educational Society participated in a march from Vivekanander Illam to Vivekananda College as part of Vivekananda and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose jayanthi celebrations. Veteran P.K. Sevai (90), who served as chief of recruitment and propaganda units of the Indian National Army under Bose's command, was honoured on the occasion. The programmes were held on Saturday.

Bhoomi puja

The bhoomi puja for the installation of the bronze statue of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel at Sardar Patel Road in Guindy (opposite Raj Bhavan) was performed on Saturday by the Sardar Vallabbhai Patel Memorial Trust.
