Comedy is as bad

I strongly endorse the view on villainy in serials (Letters, Jan. 16). Comedy in serials can be equally damaging. In the name of humour, senseless, illogical and unlawful sequels that have no regard for human values are aired without inhibition. Criminal offences such as bigamy, cheating, kidney removal, and sterilisation without the consent of the patient are supposed to be humorous.

Domestic violence, abusive language and disregard for elders have all become common in serials. The impact of these on children, who are confused about the definitions of right and wrong in the present-day context, can only be imagined.

Manjula Inian,
New Delhi
