Letters to the Editor
Jallikattu (bullfight), which takes place in several villages of Madurai district as part of Pongal festivities, is a traditional martial event like matador in Spain. Brave young men display their valour to control the ferocious bulls. Tourists are encouraged to witness the event. But every year, some participants lose their lives and many are injured. Even onlookers become victims as the bulls run berserk. Top police officials are present at the site. Yet, there are delays in taking the injured for treatment. The authorities must arrange for a medical unit and an ambulance for taking immediate care of the injured and casualties.
