I won't oppose my father: Revanna

Special Correspondent

`Tie-up with BJP against supremo's wishes'

BANGALORE: Opposing his brother H.D. Kumaraswamy's revolt, Minister for Public Works H.D. Revanna on Thursday said: "I will quit politics, but not oppose my father and Janata Dal (S) President H.D. Deve Gowda."

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Revanna said: "We are trying to convince Mr. Kumaraswamy to retract from his tie-up with the BJP to form a government."

The option for party legislators who had identified themselves with Mr. Kumaraswamy was to choose Mr. Deve Gowda's leadership or power, he said. He said January 18 was a black day in the political career of his father. "We won the elections in the past because of the popularity of Mr. Deve Gowda in the State." He stood for secular and democratic values. The alliance with the BJP was totally against Mr. Deve Gowda's wish, Mr Revanna said.

Kharge reaction

KPCC President M. Mallikarjun Kharge said Mr. Deve Gowda must sack Mr. Kumaraswamy and State JD (S) President N. Thippanna for indulging in anti-party activities. "If Mr. Deve Gowda is making sincere efforts to save the secular Dharam Singh Government, then he should sack both leaders." So far Mr. Deve Gowda displayed his sincerity in extending the support to the Government headed by the Congress. The Government would win the vote of confidence on January 27 if the Mr. Deve Gowda extended support to the Government, he said.
