NEW DELHI: The revamped Board of Trade (BoT), headed by Kumar Mangalam Birla, will meet for the first time in Mumbai on Friday to consider issues relating to exports of crucial products like textiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has convened a meeting of the BoT at a venue outside the national capital in a departure from tradition, in a bid to involve industry more closely with the efforts to boost exports. One of the key items on the agenda of the meeting will be presentations by working groups and study groups set up earlier on specified areas of exports. The five working groups were established to evaluate export promotion schemes, trade facilitation, the manufacturing sector, to identify sectors and strategies having comparative advantage and to study special economic zones and export oriented units. Besides, there were sectoral study groups on textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and allied sectors. There was also a special group to study the impact of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) and Free trade Areas (FTAs) on Indian industry and exports.
