U.S. Senator meets Manmohan Singh
Diplomatic Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
United States Senator and former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday and held discussions with him on various issues.
The July 18, 2005 civilian nuclear deal figured at the 45-minute meeting, senior officials said. Mr. Kerry, who is said to be supportive of the deal, however, had questions about the agreement. He briefed Dr. Singh about what was going on in Congress on the issue.
Focus on economic issues
The Senator's visit comes ahead of the likely visit of U.S. President George W. Bush to India fairly soon. There was considerable focus on economic issues at the meeting. China and Pakistan too figured in the talks, the officials said.
