2.5-km extension of Dwarka line to cost Rs. 275 crores

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority have worked out the infrastructure cost of the 2.5-km extension of Metro Line III from Dwarka Sector 9 to Dwarka Sector 22 at Rs. 275 crores.

The cost of this section would be borne by the DDA, which had earlier paid Rs. 320 crores to the DMRC for the 6.5-km extension of the line from Dwarka to Dwarka Sector 9. The total cost of the 6.5-km extension was Rs. 430 crores in April 2003. While the cost of infrastructure -- which included civil, electrical and signalling and telecommunication work -- was Rs 320 crores, the cost of the rolling stock was Rs 110 crores.

It had been decided that the cost of infrastructure would be provided by the DDA to the DMRC as grant while the Rs 110-crore cost of the rolling stock would be mobilised by the DMRC on its own.

The 6.5-km extension, which is entirely elevated, has piers at an average interval of 15 metres resting on raft foundation at all stations.

The DDA is now looking forward to the opening of the extension in March 2006.
