New Delhi: As Delhi Metro's longest line was commissioned on Friday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh termedits Managing Director E. Sreedharan a role model for future generations. Describing the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief as the "spirit behind the Metro," Dr. Singh said "he [Sreedharan] is a role model for future generations to come." Inaugurating the 22.8 km Line 3 of the rail network, Dr. Singh said, "I compliment all those who have been associated with this great national saga of adventure and enterprise. This project could not have been conceived if its architects had not dared to think big." Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy said Metro projects had always been completed on time, adding that "the credit for this goes to DMRC and its MD E. Sreedharan." Mr. Sreedharan (73), who has been with DMRC since November 1997, was recently given a three-year extension as the Metro chief despite his desire to retire.
