Railway staff suspended

K.Balchand

PATNA: The East Central Railway on Wednesday suspended the Chief Controller of Traffic, Sonepur Division, and the driver of a goods train, holding them responsible for detaining the MR (Minister of Railways) special train carrying Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on his way to Gopalganj on Tuesday.

The MR special was held up for more than three hours at Bada Gopalpur station on the Hajipur-Gopalganj section following a breakdown of the engine of the goods train.

The driver had ignored the instruction issued to him about the presence of the MR special on the section and the train had to be shunted for well over three hours. With Mr. Prasad taking a serious note of the issue, CCT P.K. Pandey and driver N.K. Singh were suspended.

Mr. Prasad was on his way to visit the family of one of his party workers who was among the five killed on last Monday.
