"The drive is a sign of the sick police mind"

NEW DELHI:
Operation Majnu against "eve teasers" came in for severe criticism in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The drive was a sign of the "sick" police mind, the members said. They demanded strict action against the officers who beat up teenagers in a park on Monday. Raising the matter, Sushma Swaraj (BJP) asked what was wrong in youngsters sitting together in public parks. "Why cannot young boys and girls have healthy friendship? Women are participating in all fields with men and even providing leadership in many areas."
If it was a drive against eve teasing, why were girls beaten up in the presence of mediapersons? Ms. Swaraj found support from all sections. Demanding that the police officials, including women personnel, responsible for the assault on the young students be identified and punished, the members said the trend indicated the country's slide from civilised norms of society. Home Minister Shivraj Patil said he would get information and apprise the House of the incident.
