KOLLAM: A 32-year-old man, running a computer-based firm at Kadakkal, was arrested by the Kadakkal police for selling pornographic video compact discs (CDs) to school students.
The police gave the identity of the arrested person as Anil Kumar and said that he was arrested under Section 292 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women Act.
Circle Inspector R. Pradeep Kumar of the Kadakkal police station said that Anil Kumar had targeted boys from Std 1X and X of a school at Kadakkal. His shop is located near the school. Pornographic CDs are sold to the students at the rate of Rs.60. Orders have to be placed in advance and the amount too should be paid in advance.
For the purpose, Anil Kumar had downloaded 150 pornographic movie files into the hard disk of his computer. Each file had duration of more than 90 minutes. Two files were loaded into a CD and sold for Rs. 60. Most of the boys who purchased the CDs had a personal computer at home.
It was following an information given by the school authorities that raided Anil Kumar's shop and arrested him. The school authorities had found a pornographic CD in the possession of a student and on questioning, he confessed to have purchased it from Anil Kumar. The school authorities also learnt that Kumar had sold a good number of such CDs to other students too.
When the police raided the shop, they could not find any pornographic CD there and Kumar feigned to be innocent. Afterwards the police began checking each folder stored in his computer and found that one of the folders contained the 150 pornographic movie files. The computer was seized and sealed. He then confessed to have sold lots of such CDs to the students of the school. Mr. Pradeep Kumar said that being a bailable offence, Anil Kumar was arrested and then released. The Kaddakkal Police have filed a case.
