Suparn Verma knew Bollywood was his destination when he was just nine. And he also knew that Fardeen Khan -- an actor who has neither impressed many critics nor the box office so far -- was going to be his "con" hero. From being a journalist with rediff to writing the scripts of films like "Chhal", "Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai", "Kayamat", "Humrahi", "Zameen", "Janasheen" and "Karam", Suparn may have seen little success with the scripting pen, but with his maiden film "Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena" now up at the theatres, he is hoping for things to change. And believe it or not, the director says he knew Fardeen was his hero while writing the script. "I knew when I was writing the character that only he could do play the role. The hero had to be suave with a certain quality that only Fardeen has. And it was really nice that he agreed to do it immediately. In fact, Fardeen really stood by me till I could get the finances for the film right," he said. Of course, Suparn also got to be the first director to say "Action!" to Feroze Khan after nearly 15 years. "He was such a pleasure to work with. I was actually not sure how it would be as he is such a senior actor and a director himself. But he always came on time, gave his best, and, instead of going back to his van, would hang around after giving his shot to see everything had been done," remembers Suparn. Lakshmi B. Ghosh
