Madhur Tankha

NEW DELHI: The Managing Director of the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC), Jalaj Shrivastava, on Monday opened the National Institute of Jewellery Design and Technology at Okhla in South Delhi.

Two courses in diamond identification and grading and coloured gemstones identification have been started, in which 27 trainees from Delhi, the National Capital Region and Karnataka would undergo training in these two trades. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shrivastava said the DSIDC had taken path-breaking steps to give a major boost to the gold and jewellery industry in the city. The facilities include identification, grading and certification of diamonds, an assaying and hallmarking centre, besides a gem-testing laboratory.

Assuring the trainees that the best of faculty and training infrastructure were being provided to them, DSIDC executive director Rita Kumar said the institute would conduct 15 courses including a comprehensive three-year diploma course in jewellery design and manufacture technology.
