Perfect ploy

The South Africans should be congratulated for the way they plotted the Indians' defeat in the first ODI in Hyderabad. Aggressive bowling formed the ploy, and it worked wonders for the Proteas. Added to that was the determination to win — the picture was complete for the visitors.

A mistake

It is clear the Indians are in for a struggle against the South Africans. The selectors should have pinned on experience and taken in say Saurav Ganguly for an inconsistent Virender Sehwag.

Good augury

The one-day series triumph of Team India over Sri Lanka, while underscoring the clever captaincy of Rahul Dravid, emphasised some positives. The youngsters showed the right frame of mind. There was resilience in the batting and improvement in the fielding.
