Narrow win for Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad recorded a two-run win over Baroda in the Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 cricket tournament in Delhi on Sunday, according to information received here.

The scores: Hyderabad 210 & 134 (Abhishek Ponia 58) bt Baroda 182 & 160 (Pragyan Ojha five for 51).

Sreenica is champion

Ch. Sreenica of Hyderabad Carrom Association lifted the junior girls' singles title in the 34th junior National and inter-State carrom championship, outplaying Amritha Pritham of Jharkhand at 25-0, 25-0 in the final.

Incidentally, Srenica created history of sorts by becoming the first girl ever from Hyderabad to win this title after a gap of 23 years. Hyderabad's S. Adithya and L. Suryaprakash won silver and bronze in the youth (below 21) singles. Ilavazhagi of Tamil Nadu won the youth girls' title, defeating teammate Pramila Devi 25-11, 25-16.

KGWC triumphs

Kasturbha Gandhi Women's College defeated Villa Marie College 2-1 in the final of the inter-collegiate women's tennis championship.

The results (final): Oormila (Kasturba) bt Megha Shinde 6-1, 6-0; Shravya Chandrasekhar (Kasturba) lost to Gangotri 0-6, 0-6; Shravya/Oormila (Kasturba) bt Megha Shinde/Gangotri 6-2, 6-2.

Other results: Villa Marie College bt St. Pious 2-1 (Gangotri bt Anuradha 6-0, 6-0; Megha Shinde lost to Akhila 0-6, 1-6; Megha Shinde/Gangotri bt Akhila/Anuradha 6-0, 6-0).

Kasturbha College bt St. Francis College 2-0 (Oormila bt Grace 6-0, 6-0; Shravya Chandrasekhar bt Nalini 6-1, 6-2).

Vijaya School in final

Vijaya High School (Khapra) will take on Vignan Prabhodananda Vidyaniketan in the final of the second V. Purushotham Memorial inter-schools' hockey tournament at Gymkhana Grounds on Wednesday.

In the semifinals on Sunday, Vijaya School outplayed Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 (Uppal) 5-0 with S. Abhinav Reddy scoring four goals, including a hat-trick. B. Shashanth Kumar completed the tally. Vignan Vidyaniketan scored a solitary goal win over Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 (Uppal). Vivek scored the match-winner.

OU kabaddi team

Osmania University named its kabaddi team that will take part in the South Zone inter-University meet.

The team: R. Gopi, A. Purushotham, Y. Rajesh Goud, M. Koteshwar Rao, Indira Reddy, B. Balu, Balaji, Manik Raj, K. Satish Goud, K. Srinivas Reddy, K. Dashrath and S. Kumar.

Umpires clinic

Hyderabad Hockey Association will organise an umpires clinic on November 22 at the Association Office at Begumpet Police Hockey Stadium from 5 p.m., according to G. Satyanarayana, Secretary, HHA.

Tennis tournament
