Inspects 500-acre site; senior officials to visit company headquarters in Germany

HYDERABAD: A five-member team of the German auto major, Volkswagen, visited a 500-acre site near Tada in Nellore district offered by the State Government for the proposed car factory raising expectations about revival of the company's plans which were mired in controversy.

The team, headed by Peter Walter, company's corporate executive, Eckharp Thyele, general manager, and three others, inspected the site located between Tada and Sullurpet, 76 km from Chennai.

The site near Tada was shown as an alternative to the one in Visakhapatnam in which Volkswagen seemed to have lost interest after prolonged negotiations with the State Government.

The Volkswagen team left for Chennai in the evening after an hour-long inspection of the site. Meanwhile, a team of senior officials is likely to visit Volkswagen company headquarters in Germany by this month-end.

Nellore Staff Reporter adds: The VW team, which included Patrick Mayer, Hans Henrich Prohin and Lutz Christian Kusche, put searching questions to the Government officials about the links with major roads and vulnerability of the area to seismic and cyclonic activity.
